Hey Guys, This One’s For You!

Hi again!  This month, in honor of all the fathers and other guys out there, here’s a list of great websites geared to your favorite guy.  (Don’t worry, nothing weird, but these  definitely contain more guy-oriented stuff.)

Uncrate is the first website to check out this month. Self-described as “the leading buyer’s guide for men”, Uncrate has over 9,000 items available.  There is new gear posted every weekday, and the information is available online and in print. In this one place your guy can find the latest gear, styles, cars, tech, media, food, travel items, videos and more.  Uncrate was even listed as one of Time Magazine’s 50 Best Websites of 2012.  There is a lot to look at here.  It reminds me of another time-killer website that starts with that letter after “O”.  This would be a great site to visit to create the ultimate list of gifts.

Next is The Awesomer, a daily blog that is “filled with awesome stuff for awesome people.”  Although it started as a shopping blog for gadgets, The Awesomer is now filled with gadgets, cars, clothing and video games.  The owners of the site say, “The more interesting/funky/goofy, the better.”  The owners look through many stories, blogs, online stores and social media sites to find “the very best stuff.”  You can even suggest links for them to check out.  With millions of page-views and visits per month, it’s no surprise that The Awesomer was an official 2012 Webby Award Honoree and one of PC Magazine’s Top Web Sites in 2009.  Prices, links, sources and more are provided in the short posts.  I liked the short posts that were full of “awesome” information and pictures.  There was definitely a lot of interesting stuff to check out.  This was my number 2 favorite of the sites listed.  It reminded me of a cross between that time-killer site mentioned above and another popular site that starts with “T”.

All the sports fans out there will want to check out the Bleacher Report.  This one has it all–baseball, basketball, football, hockey, NASCAR, fantasy sports, WWE and more.  Imagine your favorite guy being able to find all of his sports headlines, pictures, scores and mock drafts.  We do a lot of things outside but not the typical sports.  This would definitely be a fun place to check out favorite teams, players, and current sports news.

Just in case dad doesn’t have time to go shop for the essentials he’ll want to visit Manpacks too.  Manpacks contain basics needs such as underwear, razors, toiletries, vitamins and other items. (Yes, the items even have very popular name brands.)  You can build your own Manpack, give one as a gift, and set up one-time or quarterly delivery.

Last but certainly not the least is The Art of Manliness. This site, authored by a husband and wife, is full of articles to help men “be better husbands, better fathers, and better men.”  It contains many articles which refer to the past for examples of manliness.  The articles are all about learning skills, manners, principles, and virtues.  You won’t find articles about the 3 letter “s” word or how to get killer abs here.  If you’d love to see your guy be a well-rounded man point him to this site. Life, Dress and Grooming, Health and Sports, Manly Skills, Money and Career, and Relationships and Family categories can be found here.  There is even a Community section where readers can chat/ask questions/discuss things in the various categories.  Just a few of the many articles include: The Man’s Essential Library, How to Shave Like Your Grandpa, How to Tie a Tie, How to Carve a Turkey, How and When to Tuck in Your Shirt, How to Iron a Dress Shirt, How to Take Care of a Hat, How to Build an Interchangeable Wardrobe, and How to Trim a Mustache.  There are also links to podcasts, relevant videos, and inspirational Manvotionals.  This was my favorite site of the many I checked out this month.  I suspect it’ll be one my husband will be frequenting.

Celebrate the dads, fathers, and other guys in your life this month.  Share this list and encourage them to have fun.  If you know of more great sites for dads/men, leave a comment so I can check them out too.  Dad passed a few years ago, but I’m pretty sure he would have had fun with most of the list.   Blessings to you and yours!
